How to Comp Vocal Takes in Logic Pro

Combine the best moments from multiple vocal takes into one perfect performance using Logic Pro's powerful Quick Swipe Comping.

This tutorial explains how to assemble a single 'perfect' track from multiple recording passes. You will learn to use Take Folders to select the best phrases seamlessly.

Follow these steps

  1. Open the Take Folder

Double-click your recorded region to reveal the Take Folder. You will see your various takes stacked vertically beneath the main track.

  2. Enable Swipe Comping

Ensure the Quick Swipe Comping button (the icon with three small rectangles) is enabled in the top left of the folder.

  3. Highlight Best Sections

Click and drag your mouse over the best parts of each take. The selected sections will be highlighted and automatically promoted to the main track.

  4. Adjust the Transitions

Move the boundaries between selections to find the most natural transition. Logic applies a tiny crossfade automatically to prevent pops.

Common mistakes

  • Not clicking the 'Quick Swipe Comping' icon, which prevents the swipe behavior.
  • Selecting tiny slivers of audio that create unnatural clicks between words.
