How to Connect a MIDI Keyboard to Logic Pro

This tutorial helps you establish a data connection between your MIDI keyboard and Logic Pro. Success means your physical key presses will trigger sounds from Logic's built-in software instruments.
Follow these steps
Connect via USB or MIDI
Connect your keyboard to your Mac using a USB cable or a MIDI-to-USB interface. Most modern keyboards are 'plug-and-play' and don't need manual drivers.
Create a Software Instrument Track
Create a new 'Software Instrument' track in Logic. By default, Logic will often load a classic electric piano or synth.
Test for Sound
Press a key on your controller. You should hear sound immediately if your speakers are on and the track is selected.
Troubleshoot the Connection
If no sound occurs, go to Logic Pro > Settings > MIDI and click 'Reset MIDI Drivers'. This often forces the software to recognize a newly plugged-in device.

- Plugging the MIDI cable into the wrong port (Out should go to In).
- Using a charging-only USB cable that doesn't transmit data.
