How to Set Tempo, Time Signature, and Metronome in Logic Pro
Keep your music in time. Set the project BPM, define the time signature, and configure the click track to guide your recording session.
This tutorial explains how to set the rhythmic foundation of your project using the metronome and global settings. A correct tempo ensures that loops and MIDI effects sync perfectly with your performance.
Follow these steps
Adjust the Project Tempo
Locate the LCD display at the top center of the screen. Double-click the '120' value and type in your desired Beats Per Minute (BPM).
Change the Time Signature
Click the '4/4' numbers in the LCD display to change your time signature. You can select common signatures like 3/4 or 6/8 from the list.
Toggle the Metronome
Press the 'K' key on your keyboard to turn the Metronome on and off. The icon looks like a small triangle (metronome) in the Control Bar.
Customize the Click Sound
Right-click the Metronome icon to change settings. Here you can adjust the click volume or decide if it should only play during recording.
Common mistakes
- Changing the tempo after recording audio, which causes misalignment.
- Setting the metronome to 'Only during recording' and wondering why it's silent during playback.
