How to Use the Logic Pro Compressor

Follow these steps
Load the Compressor plugin
Open the Mixer and click an empty Audio Effect slot on your track. Select Dynamics and then Compressor to load the plugin.
Set the Threshold
Lower the Threshold slider until you see the Gain Reduction meter moving during the loudest parts. This determines the level at which compression begins.
Choose a Ratio
Adjust the Ratio to determine how much the volume is reduced once it crosses the threshold. A ratio of 3:1 is a safe starting point for most instruments.
Compensate with Make Up gain
Use the Make Up knob to increase the overall volume of the track. This compensates for the volume lost during the compression process.
Common mistakes
- Applying too much make-up gain, causing the channel to clip red.
- Setting the attack time too fast, which can kill the 'punch' of a drum hit.
